Avanos is famous for its potters. This tradition, which came from the Hittites time, is still continuing today. Besides that, it is worth noting that Kızılırmak River passes immediately through Avanos’ heart. Thanks to this river, many artists who continue the pottery cultures that have been going on for centuries to benefit from clay soil, produce legendary pieces in the region.
Located on the Goreme-Avanos road, 2 km from Goreme, Cavusin is one of the oldest settlements in the Cappadocia region. Kizilcukur and Gulludere Valleys where 12 churches are located start from the border of Cavusin which is connected to Avanos. The Crusader Church near Gulludere was also used for defensive purposes against the influx of Muslim Arabs.
